RustEdit 2

RustEdit is a desktop map editor for the game Rust. You can make a map from nothing, or open any Rust map and change it. When the map is ready, you export a .map file that a Rust server loads.

What you can do

  • Shape and paint the terrain. Raise mountains, carve rivers and paint ground, biomes and topology with brushes. See Terrain.
  • Place prefabs. Drag any of Rust's prefabs from the Content Browser into the scene, or paint many at once with the Prefab Brush.
  • Build custom monuments. Save a group of prefabs and terrain changes as a monument that you can use again, share or sell. See Custom monuments.
  • Draw roads, rivers, rails and paths. See Splines and paths.
  • Make the map work in game. Wire IO, give containers loot profiles, set up vending machines, then walk the map in Play mode.
  • Generate maps. Run Rust's own map generator in the Procedural Generation panel, or build your own generator with the Terrain Graph.
  • Work with others. Edit one map together with Multiplayer, or let an AI app use RustEdit's tools through AI Access.

Start here

  1. Install RustEdit.
  2. Learn the interface.
  3. Make your first map.

RustEdit Plus and RustEdit Pro

Most of RustEdit is free. Some features need RustEdit Plus or RustEdit Pro. Their pages show a badge, and the app shows locked features as disabled. See Free, Plus and Pro.

Help from inside the app

Every panel in the Inspector has a ? button in its title bar. Click it to open that panel's page in these docs. The component reference lists every panel and all of its fields.
