Change Parts of a Placed Monument

A placed monument gets its parts from its file. You can still change some parts of one placed copy, without changing the file or the other copies. This works like prefab overrides in Unity:

  • Transform: move, turn or size a part.
  • Field values in the Inspector, such as a timer's length or a crate's loot profile, and Custom Data.
  • Splines: knots and path settings of a road, NPC path or other spline in the monument.
  • IO wires between two parts of the same placed monument.
  • Name, lock and hide, with the name field and the switches at the top of the Inspector.
  • Enabled: a disabled part is not shown and is not in the exported map.

The placed monument keeps these changes and saves them with the scene. When the monument's file changes, the parts are built again from the file, and the changes go back onto them.

Change a field

  1. In the Hierarchy, expand the placed monument and click a part.
  2. In the Inspector, change a value.

The field gets a blue bar on its left and a bold label: the value is this part's own, not the file's. In the Hierarchy, the part's name is bold.

If you type the file's value again, the label is no longer bold.

A field that points at another part of the same monument, such as an NPC's walk path or a vehicle spawner, keeps that part, also after the parts are built again.

Socket links you break on a part come back when the parts are built again.

Change a part's splines

A spline in a placed monument, such as a road or an NPC path, can be changed on its own too: move, add or delete knots, add or remove splines, and change the path settings, with the spline tools and the Inspector as on any spline.

The placed monument keeps the whole spline entity's shape: its splines, knots and path settings. When the shape is not the file's, the spline table in the Inspector gets the blue bar and a bold title. Right-click the table and click Revert to Monument Value to put the file's shape back.

Revert a field

Right-click the marked field and click Revert to Monument Value. The field gets the value from the monument's file again.

Move, turn or size a part

  1. In the Hierarchy, click the part.
  2. Move, turn or size it with the gizmo in the scene view, or type values in the Transform section of the Inspector.

The changed Position, Rotation or Scale gets the blue bar and a bold label. The part keeps its new place under its parent: when you move the whole placed monument, the part moves with it. Right-click Position, Rotation or Scale and click Revert to Monument Value to put it back. Ctrl+Z undoes a move as usual.

A click on a part in the scene view still selects the whole placed monument. Select the part in the Hierarchy.

Change IO wires

You can wire a part's output to another part of the same placed monument:

  • In the Inspector, use Connect, Disconnect, the Slot list or the Wire color on the part's IO slots.
  • In the scene view, click Connect and then click another part of the same monument.

A changed wire shows a blue bar and its slot name in bold. Right-click the slot and click Revert to Monument Value to put the file's wire back.

A wire from a part to the map, or from the map to a part, goes through the monument's IO ports.

Disable a part

Select the part. At the top of the Inspector, turn off the switch in front of the part's icon and name. The switch shows only on the parts of a placed monument.

A disabled part, and everything under it:

  • is not shown in the scene view,
  • is shown faded in the Hierarchy, where you can still select it,
  • is not in an exported map. A wire to it is left out of the map too.

The part keeps its values and wires. Turn the switch on again to get it back as it was.

Rename, lock or hide a part

Use the name field and the lock and hide switches at the top of the Inspector, or the part's right-click menu in the Hierarchy. The placed monument keeps a part's own name, lock and hidden state. Locking or hiding the whole placed monument sets all of its parts, and takes away their own locks or hidden states.

Revert a part or a whole monument

  • Revert Part, on a part's right-click menu or in the ⋮ menu of the name in the Inspector: puts the part's place, name, values, wires, lock, hidden state and switch back as the file and the placed monument have them.
  • Revert All Part Changes, on the placed monument's right-click menu: does this for every part.

Saving, exporting and unpacking

  • A saved scene keeps the changes with the placed monument.
  • Duplicate copies the changes with the monument.
  • An exported map holds the parts as they are, with the changes. Its monument record keeps the changes too: when you open the map again with the monument file, the monument is placed from the file with its changes. See Monuments in maps you open.
  • Unpack deletes the disabled parts, as they are not in the map. The other parts keep their changes as plain objects. A monument inside the unpacked monument keeps the changes made to its own parts. Ctrl+Z links the monument again with all of its changes.
note

A change stays with the part, found by its place in the monument's file. If you delete that part from the file, its changes are no longer used. Revert All Part Changes removes them.

Monuments inside monuments

A part of a monument placed inside another monument can be changed too. The change is kept by the placed monument you see in the Hierarchy at the top, the one in your map. When you edit the outer monument's file, you can give the inner monument changes of its own there.
