Beta Builds

RustEdit Plus

A beta build is a version of RustEdit with new features before their release. Beta builds are for members with RustEdit Plus or higher. See Free, Plus, Pro and Sponsor.

A beta can have bugs. Keep a copy of your maps, and keep your normal RustEdit for work you need to finish.

Install the beta

The beta is its own install, RustEdit Beta, in its own folder. It does not change your normal RustEdit, and you can use both on the same computer.

Install it with its own setup, RustEditBetaSetup.exe, as you install RustEdit with RustEditSetup.exe. See Installation and First Start. The beta's default folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\RustEdit Beta. Its shortcuts and its entry in the installed apps are called RustEdit Beta.

A beta build updates itself from the beta updates only, and your normal RustEdit never gets them. Everything else on the Updates page works the same for the beta.

When a beta build starts, it checks your RustEdit license before it loads:

  • With RustEdit Plus or higher, it loads as usual.
  • Without it, the RustEdit Beta window shows, and nothing loads until you sign in with an account that has it.
The RustEdit Beta window before you sign in
  1. Click Sign In With RustHQ and sign in in your web browser.
  2. RustEdit gets your license. If it has RustEdit Plus or higher, the beta loads.

If your account does not have the tier:

  1. Click Get RustEdit Plus. The RustEdit subscribe page opens.
  2. Buy or upgrade your subscription.
  3. Back in RustEdit, click Check Again.

To use another RustHQ account, click Sign Out, then sign in again. To close the beta, click Quit.

A beta build uses the same sign-in and license as your normal RustEdit, so it also works offline until the license ends. See Installation and First Start.

When the license ends

If the license loses RustEdit Plus while the beta runs, for example when you sign out or your subscription ends:

  • The RustEdit Beta window shows and says the beta is locked.
  • Panels, menus, keyboard shortcuts and the scene view stop working, and play mode stops.
  • Your open map stays as it is.

Sign in again or renew your subscription, then click Check Again. RustEdit unlocks within a second, and you can go on where you were. To close RustEdit instead, click Quit: RustEdit asks about unsaved changes first.

Beta version numbers

A beta build's version ends in b and a number. For example, 2.0.0b1 is the first beta of RustEdit 2.0.0, and 2.0.0b2 is the second. The title bar of the RustEdit window shows the version, for example RustEdit v2.0.0b1 - My Map.
