Map Tools
The map tools change the whole map at once. The prefab tools change many prefabs at once. Both are in the Tools menu.
Map Tools
has these tools:
| Tool | What it does | Undo |
|---|---|---|
| Rotate Map | Turns the terrain and everything on it a quarter or half turn. | Yes, one step |
| Resize Map | Makes the map bigger or smaller: stretch it, add land around it, or cut its edges. | No |
| Terrain Resolution | Changes the resolution of the height map and the texture maps. The map keeps its size. | No |
| Merge Map | Copies an area of another map into this one: terrain, prefabs and paths. | Yes, one step |
Merge Map opens as a panel and has a button on the toolbar too. The others open a dialog.
Resize Map and Terrain Resolution load the map again. That clears the undo history, so RustEdit asks before it starts.
tip
Save before you use a map tool. If you do not like the result, brings back the map as it was saved.
When the map tools work
The map tools work on a map. They do not start when:
- a monument is open. The menu items are greyed out. Go back to the map first.
- the terrain graph shows a preview. Apply it or stop it first. See Apply and preview.
- another map tool is still running.
In a multiplayer session, only the host can use Resize Map and Terrain Resolution.
Prefab Tools
has these tools. See Prefab tools.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Replace Prefab | Swaps the copies of one prefab for another prefab, in the whole map or in the selection. |
| Remove Duplicates | Finds prefabs that sit on a copy of themselves, and deletes the extra copies. The oldest copy stays. |
| Generate Text | Writes text with Rust's tunnel sign letters, where you look or on the selected entity. |
| Convert CopyPaste | Makes a monument from each CopyPaste file you pick. |
