NPC Spawner

The NPC Spawner panel sets which NPC an NPC spawner spawns on the server, and how. It shows when you select an NPC spawner: RustEdit's own object, not a Rust prefab.

On the server, the spawner spawns the NPC you pick at its place and facing its direction, like Rust's own spawners do. When the NPC dies, the next one spawns after the respawn delay. Pick a person, such as a scientist or a bandit guard, or an animal, such as a wolf or a stag.

Add one from the Server Objects folder of the Content Browser, on a map or in a custom monument.

  • A new spawner's NPC is None: the scene view shows an orange sphere.
  • When you pick an NPC, the scene view shows the NPC itself. A person wears the clothing that Rust gives it, such as a scientist's hazmat suit, and holds its weapon. With loadouts, it wears the first loadout. The name over it shows the NPC it spawns.
  • Click the sphere or the NPC to select the spawner. A box selection takes it too.

A spawner with NPC set to None spawns nothing, but it is still in the exported map with its settings. Server plugins can use it, for example to spawn their own NPCs there.

warning

The spawner needs the RustEdit 2 server extension, and the map must be exported with Entities set to In RustEdit data. A map exported with In the map has no spawners. See Export Map.

Senses

Sense Range, Listen Range and Target Lost Range show only for people. Animals have their own senses.

Loadouts

Loadouts gives the NPC its clothing, weapons and items from loadout profiles.

  • Click + to add a row.
  • To use another profile in the row, drag it onto the row from the Content Browser, folder Profiles > Loadout Profiles, or click the row and pick it.
  • With several rows, the server picks one at random each time the NPC spawns.
  • An empty list keeps the NPC's own items.

The list shows only for NPCs with an inventory: not for the Gen2 scientists (Scientist2) or animals.

Walk Path

Walk Path makes the NPC walk an NPC path: it walks to the path, along it, and waits at the path's stop points.

  • Drag a spline entity with an NPC path from the Hierarchy onto the field.
  • Right-click the field and click Clear to let the NPC roam around the spawner.
  • While the spawner is selected, a dashed line goes from it to the point where its NPC joins the path.
  • Duplicate a spawner with its path, and the copy walks the copied path.

Can edit several selected objects at once.
