Terrain Filter

A Terrain Filter is a monument attribute: Rust's own terrain filter, in your monument. When Rust's map generator tries a spot for the monument, the ground under this point must match the filter, or the spot fails. The panel shows when you select a filter in an open monument. Add one from the Procedural folder of the Content Browser.

The fields work together. The ground passes when it has some of the picked Splat textures, its main biome is one of the picked Biome types, and its topology has at least one of Topology Any, all of Topology All and none of Topology Not. Topology Radius reads the topology in a circle around the point instead of at the point. Check Placement also fails the point where something placed earlier took the ground. A new filter allows every splat, biome and topology, with Check Placement on.

warning

Do not leave Splat, Biome or Topology Any empty. Rust counts an empty list as a mistake: it logs an error and skips that check. An empty Topology Any also skips Topology All and Topology Not.

In the scene view, a filter is a small diamond with a pole and a ball on top. The point must be on the map, whether Check Map Edge is on or not.

Check Map Edge is one of Rust's own filter settings. It makes no difference to where your monument spawns: Rust's generator already fails every filter point outside the map before it checks the filter.
