Vehicle Vendor

The Vehicle Vendor panel sets which of Rust's vehicle vendors stands here and the vehicle spawner it sells through. It shows when you select a vehicle vendor: RustEdit's own object, not a Rust prefab.

On the server, it makes one of Rust's vehicle vendors, like the ones at the bandit camp and the fishing villages. Players buy a vehicle by talking to the vendor. A vehicle spawner then spawns the vehicle on its spot.

In Rust, a vehicle vendor needs two parts: the vendor NPC, and a vehicle spawner. The vendor sells, the spawner makes the vehicle. The Vehicle Vendor is the NPC, and its Vehicle Spawner field links it to a spawner of your map.

Add one from the Server Objects folder of the Content Browser, on a map or in a custom monument. The scene view shows the vendor in the clothing that Rust gives it, with its name over it. If the vendor cannot be shown, the scene view shows a blue shape the size of a person, with a line in the direction the vendor faces. You can move and turn it, but not scale it.

Can edit several selected objects at once.

FieldTypeDescription
Vendor#Dropdown

The NPC that stands here: bandit_conversationalist sells helicopters and the hot air balloon, boat_shopkeeper sells boats and submarines. Players buy by talking to it

The choices depend on the map or the selection.

Vehicle Spawner#Vehicle spawner

The vehicle spawner that spawns what players buy: drag one in from the hierarchy, such as boatspawner or airwolfspawner. None: the nearest one within 40 m that spawns this vendor's vehicles

Loadouts#List of Loadout profile field

Loadout profiles the vendor spawns with: its clothing, weapons and items. With several, the server picks one at random each time. Empty: its own. Make them in Tools > Profiles > Loadout Profile Editor

The Vendor list shows only the vendors that the Rust game on your computer has. Rust's stables vendor sells nothing, so it is not in the list. A horsespawner puts horses up for sale by itself, without a vendor.

  1. Place the spawner prefab, such as airwolfspawner or boatspawner. Type its name in the search box of the Content Browser to find it.
  2. Select the Vehicle Vendor.
  3. Drag the spawner from the Hierarchy onto Vehicle Spawner in the Inspector.

The field takes only a spawner of the vendor's vehicles. For another object, a notification says why. To remove the link, right-click the field and click Clear.

When the vendor is selected, the scene view shows an arrow from the vendor to its spawner.

How Rust finds the spawner:

  • Without a linked spawner, Rust links the vendor to the nearest spawner within 40 meters that spawns its vehicles. The scene view shows that 40-meter circle around a selected vendor without a spawner.
  • A purchase reaches only the spawners within 20 meters of a boat vendor, or within 40 meters of an Airwolf vendor. Every spawner of that vehicle in reach spawns one.
warning

Keep the linked spawner that near, and no other spawner of the same vehicles.

The field shows a warning when:

  • The spawner is not in the scene any more. The vendor keeps the link, so an undo of the delete brings it back. The field shows Missing spawner with the spawner's ID.
  • The spawner does not spawn the vendor's vehicles, for example after you changed the Vendor.

Export Map tells you about these vendors in the Notifications panel.

When you duplicate a vendor and its spawner together, the copy links to the copied spawner. A vendor duplicated alone keeps its spawner.

The Airwolf vendor's spawner has a helipad that players repair before the vendor sells: airwolf_helipad.repairable. Place it where the spawner spawns its vehicles. Its Repaired switch sets whether the server spawns it repaired. See Repairable Vehicle Pad.

Loadouts

Loadouts dresses the vendor from loadout profiles: its clothing, weapons and items.

  • With several, the server picks one at random each time it spawns.
  • With loadouts, the scene view shows the vendor wearing the first one.
  • Without loadouts, the vendor wears Rust's own clothing for it. Rust has two outfits for each of these vendors and picks one at random. The scene view shows the first.

Export

warning

The vendor needs the RustEdit 2 server extension, and the map must be exported with Entities set to In RustEdit data. A map exported with In the map has no vendors. See Export Map.

The vehicle spawner is exported too, and the vendor's data names it.
